Increased Vaginal Discharge
An increased vaginal discharge is normal during pregnancy. The body's immune system is not as strong as it is when not pregnant. There are some tips to help avoid the development of a yeast or bacterial infection.
- Don't wear sanitary napkins or mini pads
- Avoid feminine hygiene soaps, sprays, or powders
- Wipe after using the bathroom from front to back
- Inform your provider if your vaginal discharge is yellow or greenish, thick and cheesy, if there is soreness, burning or itching, or has a strong fish-like odor.
- Protect yourself from STD's
Over the counter yeast treatments, such as Monistat, are safe during pregnancy but you have to be careful not to be mistreating. If you are unsure whether it is a yeast or bacterial infection or normal pregnancy discharge, it is better to have your provider perform an exam to be sure to treat accordingly.
